A Letter From the Founder

I Have Dressed Australian Women for 22 Summers. Before We Close the Studio, Our Bestsellers Are Going Out for the Last Time.

On the six things I insisted on in everything we made, how our pieces compare to what you have been buying, and why the whole edit is clearing now.

The Final Summer Edit from Noosa Boutique

I am Eleanor, and I started Noosa Boutique 22 years ago, in a small studio a few streets back from the water at Noosa Heads. In all that time I have made a great many summer pieces for Australian women. The ones in this final edit are the ones that came back season after season, because women kept asking for them.

They are the pieces women stop each other about in the car park at the shops. And now that we are closing the studio, every one of them is going out together, for the last time.

For years I watched the same thing happen to women our age. The easy summer clothes made for us came in two kinds. The first looked lovely and clung to you like cling film the moment you sat down. The second was comfortable and made you look like you had given up. I never accepted that a woman had to choose. Everything in this edit is my answer, and I argued for six things in every single piece, usually with a supplier who wanted me to do the cheaper thing instead.

1

Real linen and real cotton that breathe.

Not a blend, and not the slippery polyester they pass off as natural. Real natural fibre, woven to let the heat out, so it stays cool when the sun sits heavy at 31 degrees and softens like a good sheet the more you wash it.

★★★★★

"The only thing I can wear all day in January without feeling sticky by lunchtime."

Carol R., Peregian Beach
2

Deep pockets that actually hold something.

Real ones, set into the side seam, deep enough for your phone, your glasses and your keys. On the days I wear these I leave the handbag on the hook by the door.

Deep pockets that actually hold something.
★★★★★

"I put my phone and my keys in the pockets and left the handbag at home. Such a small thing, and I love it."

Diane M., Coolum
3

Cuts that skim, and never cling.

Loose where you want it loose, so the air moves underneath, instead of grabbing the one part of you that you would rather it left alone.

★★★★★

"It skims straight over the middle I am self conscious about. The first thing in years that does."

Linda K., Buderim
4

Soft sleeves that cover the tops of your arms.

Without adding a single degree of warmth. It is the thing women my age thank me for most, a sleeve that lets you forget about your arms entirely.

★★★★★

"Finally, a sleeve that covers the tops of my arms and still keeps me cool."

Patricia L., Maroochydore
5

Lengths you can actually live in.

Long enough to feel covered and easy, never so long that it drowns you or so short that you keep tugging at it. Lengths you can garden in, drive in, and go to lunch in.

★★★★★

"It hits at just the right place. I can wear it to the shops or to dinner and feel right either way."

Janet S., Tewantin
6

Soft colours that go with what you already own.

Every colour in the edit was chosen to sit with the sandals and cardigans already in your wardrobe, so a Noosa piece earns its place from the first day. The blacks and the greens are nearly gone.

★★★★★

"I started with the beige and went back for the green. They go with everything I own."

Maureen T., Sunshine Beach

What is in the final edit

These are the pieces that sold out first, every season, for as long as I have been doing this. They are all in the clearance together.

  • The linen top. 100% linen, open collar, one wooden button. The one women buy in three colours.
  • The cotton dress. Soft cotton, easy A line, with the real deep pockets.
  • The striped blouse. Goes over everything you already own, and never needs thinking about.
  • The midi. Reads dressed up, feels like nothing at all.
  • The day top. Goes in a bag, comes out without a crease.

Our pieces, against what you have been buying

You can find an easy summer top on any high street. I know, because before I started making my own I bought a great many of them. Here is the difference, laid out plainly.

Most High Street Pieces

A blend, or polyester sold as cotton

Clings the moment you sit down

Fake pockets, or none at all

Bare arms, or sleeves that add warmth

Looks tired after one wash

The Noosa Edit

Real linen and cotton that actually breathe

Skims, and lets the air move underneath

Deep real pockets for phone and keys

Sleeves that cover the arms, no extra heat

Softens and holds its shape wash after wash

I refuse to make clothes that ask a woman to choose between being comfortable and looking like herself. That is the whole reason Noosa Boutique exists.

Why the whole edit is clearing now

We are closing the studio, so everything we are known for is clearing together, all at once. Every piece in the edit is now $89.95, down from $359.95, and when you take more than one the discount stacks further still.

I will be plain about it. At these prices we are barely covering our costs. I am telling you because it is true, and because once we hand back the keys, these prices go with the studio. There is no plan to bring them back.

If 22 years of running this little studio has taught me anything, it is that a woman who tries one of our pieces once usually comes back for another. That is the quiet bet I am placing in writing you this letter.

I now own the linen top in beige and green, and the cotton dress. Between them I have barely reached for anything else since spring. Comfortable, cool, and I always get a compliment.

A Noosa Boutique parcel, wrapped by hand

Wrapped by hand, the way every order has left this studio for 22 years.

This edit is what I am proudest of in 22 years. I would rather it go to women who will wear it than sit folded in boxes.

The reviews say the same things I have, over and over. If you have ever wanted summer clothes that keep you cool and comfortable without clinging, this is the edit I would put in your hands myself, while the sizes are still there.
